Rick & Laura Hall Improv

Music Improv Workshops with Rick & Laura Hall

Have you ever wanted to improvise songs like on "Whose Line is it Anyway?" Then one of our Music Improv Workshops will be perfect for you.

My wife, Laura Hall, musical director on Whose Line, create a supportive, fun workshop environment where you can grow, explore and move out of your comfort zone, starting with warmups and games to help ease into singing. We especially like helping people discover that music improv is really fun and something they can do joyfully & successfully.

If you're new to improv in general or just want to see what song improv is about, our Beginning Workshop is perfect for you. You'll build vocal confidence and learn to listen to each other and the accompaniment. You'll learn about creating characters and stories through song. Before you know it, you'll be belting out your own great improvised songs!

If you're already a more experienced improvisor, then the Advanced Workshop is for you. We'll work on songprov as a natural extension of your existing improv skills. We'll focus on creating a strong “who” and “where” for your songs, look at musical form and structure, advanced harmonies and more.

Laura and I have taught all over the world, in improv festivals, theaters, colleges and comedy clubs.  We've done private coaching for groups who want to want make musical improv part of their shows.  We can customize our workshops for your needs.

Here's what people who've taken our workshop have to say:

"What a great teaching team! Within the first two hours we learned how to advance scenes with song; we built confidence and had fun…lots of it. Thanks Rick and Laura!” – Gerry Orton, Monterey, CA

“I was blown away by how supportive and encouraging you both were. You've made me feel better about myself as an improvisor as a whole, not just musical improv.” - Heather D, Toronto, ON

“I had a fantastic time and learned a bunch at the same time. You and Laura quickly put the class at ease and whamm-o we were singing like champs!” - Andy R, Aurora, IL

The Antidote is a pop up storytelling show in response to the need for COMEDY in a time of chaos. In one jam-packed hour you'll hear four humorous stories from storytellers, writers, comedians and actors with one promise, the stories have nothing to do with the pandemic.

This is not your children's story hour. So, give the kids a puzzle; put on your earphones, grab your favorite drink and sit back and get ready to be entertained with a batch of fresh new stories each week.
